The challenge: Providing access to real-time trading data

Data is critical for success in the competitive financial industry and can make all the difference when making split-second business decisions. To keep up with demand, ICE launched the ICE Consolidated Feed over Cloud Connect which delivers real-time market intelligence pricing to clients in global public cloud environments. This service connects customers to aggregated data across more than 600 resources including over 300 exchange and OTC venues around the world through the ICE Global Network.

ICE Cloud Connect works fine in developed regions with robust infrastructure like the United States and Europe. However, clients in global emerging markets like Southeast Asia and China were having trouble accessing the ICE network due to connectivity issues. As a result, customers were struggling with problems like latency and stability and having poor user experiences.

The Solution: ICE turns to Zenlayer

ICE decided to leverage Zenlayer’s robust networking services to extend ICE Cloud Connect into China and other emerging markets throughout the region.

· Clients can now provision direct connections between their public cloud instances and ICE data sources via Zenlayer Cloud Router.

· Zenlayer Virtual Edge provides on-demand, private connections between clients’ data centers or branch offices and ICE.

In addition, ICE collaborated with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to launch ICE Consolidated History, a service that distributes historical tick data via Amazon S3 to lower transmission time for the enormous volumes associated with this data set. Global clients can now access each trade and quote from global exchanges, OTC brokers, and proprietary data sets, with history spanning 10+ years.

ICE wanted to explore new markets in greater China, but its data source was housed in the eastern U.S. Weak public connectivity between mainland China and the eastern U.S. was causing clients in China experience network instability, slow retrieval times, and high latency while accessing their purchased data.

ICE needed a secure, high-performance global acceleration solution that could reliably transmit sensitive financial data to clients with low latency.
